Programs for 2011

In 2011 KCHS will be offering students the opportunity to participate in welfare/personal development programs that will enhance the self esteem, self confidence of students. Across all levels of the school students will have the opportunity to engage in the Martial Art Therapy (MAT) Program and the Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA) - Respectful Relationships/Sexual Assault Prevention Program.

Youth Support Programs:

A combined CASA (Center Against Sexual Abuse) / MAT Program has been especially tailored to meet the needs of students in the middle and junior groups of the school within the personal development/health program. In separate groups young women and young men will explore the issue of prevention of sexual assault and respectful relationships, and the MAT Program. The program will operate in term 2 for young women and in term 3 for young men.

The MAT (Martial Arts Therapy), Program is an active therapeutic program that combines the principles of psychosocial modes of change with those of traditional martial arts training techniques. The program aims to provide young people with new skills to manage the challenges in their lives.

VCAL Focus:

At the VCAL level students will participate in the Martial Art Therapy (MAT) Program - VCAL. This program delivers VCAL programs under the Personal Development and Community Development streams of VCAL. Within this program is the Peer Educator Program which is designed as a VCAL subject, which after completing the appropriate training, students will be able to assist in group program planning, delivery and evaluation in a local primary school. Upon completion of the program students will have developed skills in:

  • Time management
  • Punctuality
  • Professionalism
  • Leadership
  • Working in Teams
  • Program planning
  • Verbal and written skills
