Through an applied-learning focus...

VCAL Subjects

Literacy:

The purpose of literacy curriculum in years 10, 11 and 12 is to enable the development of skills, knowledge and attitudes in literacy that allow progression in the main social contexts of family, employment, further learning and citizenship. Literacy skills relating to these contexts include literacy for self expression, practical purposes, knowledge and public debate. Activities include reading, writing and oral communications.

Numeracy:

Year's 10, 11 and 12 students engage in practical project-based 'real life' numeracy topics to demonstrate their numeracy skills. Focus is on consolidating the basics, then applying it to every-day life for post-school civic participation. Financial numeracy is essential, along with number, measurement, proportion and rates and problem solving. Like the junior program, senior students are highly supported with high highly structured and focused classes which support the diverse learning needs and learning styles of all students. A lot of the learning takes place outside the classroom making it easier for students to understand conceptual tasks like measurement, volume and problem solving - the use of the school gardens and basketball court prove valuable teaching aids for these topics.
